Welcome to the farm

Today we welcomed 25 turkeys to the farm. They’ll spend the next four months with us in their deluxe accommodations where they’ll have access to the great outdoors and the pristine views of our pasture. They’ll eat gourmet meals consisting of bugs and insects as well as premium non-GMO feed.

If you are interested in any of these turkeys, they’ll be looking for new homes just before Thanksgiving.

Duck Update

Our ten Peking Ducks are doing well. Their feathers have come in, they’ve turned from yellow to white, and they’ve become creatures of habit.

They’re excited to get fresh water in their kiddie pools each morning and have become super vocal if you don’t let them out of their coop early enough. We call it “Angry Daddy Duck Voice”… They certainly have a very specific quack that lets you know when they’re not happy about something.

Quack, Quack!

Baby ducks

The Peking ducks are growing quickly. A lot quicker than I expected, actually. Overall they seem similar to raising chickens at this point. They’re still scared of everything and they all huddle up together.

The garden is in full swing

The aquaponics system is working well and the garden is in full swing. The bell peppers have put on fruit, the potatoes are putting out a ton of greens, and the tomatoes are giving us handfuls of tomatoes each day.

We’ve got tomatoes!

The tomato plants are doing great in the aquaponic dutch buckets. They’re putting on fruit and before long, we’ll have fresh tomatoes! I’ve been hard pruning them so that they stay in an aggressive fruiting mode.
